Protesters rallied around the Johnny Reb statue in downtown Norfolk, Virginia, on August 16, to demand the removal of the Confederate statue.

The rally was organized by Disrupt Norfolk VA to show solidarity with the victims of the deadly Charlottesville, Virginia, rally on August 12. “Several (area code) 757 comrades experienced the terror attack that took Heather Heyer and injured 19 of their comrades. We will meet at the statue. Then move to the surrounding sidewalks in a moving picket line demonstrate our solidarity and opposition to racist hate symbols,” the Facebook event stated.
