STORY: Of the around 1,200 Israelis killed in the raids and ensuing clashes that began on Saturday (October 7), 169 have been identified as troops - at least 10 of them residents of Jerusalem, site of Mount Herzl National Cemetery.

Named after the late 19th-century writer Theodor Herzl, who envisaged the creation of the Jewish state, the cemetery is the final resting place of many Israeli leaders and local soldiers.

At a nearby, tree-lined section of Mount Herzl, dozens of silent mourners watched a funeral unfold.
