Massive 'Dust Devil' Interrupts Lynchburg Softball Game

A large “dust devil” surprised softball players and fans alike at a college game in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Saturday, April 16, swirling up dust from the infield and forcing a temporary halt to proceedings.

The Lynchburg Hornets were pitching to the Bridgewater Eagles at Moon Field when the whirlwind took off. The Hornets’ digital media director Joseph Hutzler shot this footage, and told Storyful the shortstop, Nicole Riley, “said it just popped up at her back and ‘swallowed’ her up.” In the video, players are seen shielding themselves before the “dust devil” eventually dissipates after about 35 seconds.
