Student activists established a Gaza Solidarity Camp at the University of Southern California (USC) Los Angeles on Wednesday morning, April 24, joining similar demonstrations taking place at colleges and universities across the country.

A group named the USC Divest from Death Coalition said it was occupying the park to tell university officials that they would “not stand for complicity in genocide,” and to call on USC to end its study-abroad exchange program with two Israeli universities: the Hebrew University’s Rothberg International School in Jerusalem, and Reichman University in Herzliya.

The camp was established nine days after USC announced it was banning the Class of 2024 valedictorian Asna Tabassum, a Muslim who is critical of Israel, from delivering a commencement speech. The decision sparked several student protests. Credit: Party for Socialism and Liberation via Storyful
